Ole Miss survives Rivalry Scare to remain #1

Who says experience wins ball games?

The game was ugly for coach Clark from the beginning. After an opening drive for a TD by Miss St, the Ole Miss Rebels had a holding call on the kickoff return, pinning them back inside their own 5. The first play from scrimmage saw star HB Brandon Bolden go down with an injury for a quarter. The next play saw Star QB Jevan Snead go down for 3 weeks with another injury.

Needless to say, both literally and figuratively, the Reb's backs were against the wall.

Falling behind 20-0, backup sophomore QB Nathan Stanley rallied the team during a timeout. His Tebow-esque speech fired up Ole Miss, who started playing lights out defense. Stanley played very well without the 2 star players, and even after losing the 3rd best weapon on the offense, the stud TE Hicks, Stanley managed to go 19/32 for 286 yds and 2 TD... none more impt that this one.

On 4th and 9, Coach Clark decided to go for it in Miss St territory, tied 27-27. He found his man for hte first down, then the WR broke the lone tackler, to scamper 45 yds for the go ahead TD with under 2 min left in the game.

"It was a gutsy call," Coach Clark said afterwards. "We don't get that, we give them the ball back at mid field with a chance to win it with a FG. But I had faith in Stanley. He has poise for a Sophomore".

The following answering Miss St drive ended with a pick-6, giving Mississippi a 2 score lead, which is where the game would end.

Backup HB Enrique Davis, also a sophomore, ran 29 times for 235 yds and 2 TD, including a 76 yarder off a fake handoff in the Wild Rebel formation.

I have never won a better game than this. When my HB went down I was like, oh shit hope Snead is ballin today. Next play I lose Snead for the game. Then Bolden comes back in, runs 1 play, and is out for 3 weeks (perfect time of the season to do so). Hope that makes him stay 1 more year

down 20-0. In a rivalry game

Sheesh what a win for me
