...couldn't resist starting this topic after the 2011 Bedlam Series. WOW.

The 2010 Bedlam Series was one of the only games last year Coach Macc wasn't availble to comment on prior to the end result. Call it sore losing - call it sheer dissapointment and lack of words. Coach Macc and the Oklahoma State Cowboys spent the rest of the afternoon in the visitors locker room grieving, discussing and gameplanning for this year.

Coach Macc's goal this year was to capture the Big 12 conference title and take his team to a BCS Bowl Game. After today's results it looks like that dream may just come true.

When asked about his gameplan going into this years big match-up he simply answered "defensive pressure," and it was exactly that that caused turnovers for the Sooners all afternoon. The Sooners lost the coin toss and the Cowboys defered the ball to the second half - and it sure paid off.

On the very first defensive snap of the afternoon a heavy blitz forced Sooners QB Drew Allen to throw into coverage and it was highly touted defensive back recruit, Ryan Smith who nearly took it back for a pick six. Smith was eventually tackled deep in Sooner's territory and it lead to Coach Macc going for it on 4th down after three incomplete passes on a toss left to Kyle Staley for his only score of the day.

The largest crowd in Boone-Pickens Stadium history errupted when the Cowboys took the lead and it looked like they stole early momentum in the game. That was until the ensuing kick off, a Sooners returner brought it deep into Cowboy territory and the inspired defence once again took the field. The Sooners were moving the ball at will it seemed and on a passing down none other than Thorpe Trophy front-runner Daytawion Lowe took a deep corner jump ball all the way back down the field for a pick six.

While fans, alumni and all spectators were going crazy, Coach Macc was on the sideline preaching conservative decision making and play.

"I knew the Sooners would be back. You can't expect to force interceptions every-time they have the ball. It's Oklahoma. They'll always find a way to score and before we knew it, it was 14-14 and a brand new ball game," Coach Macc said.

The Cowboys had the 28-21 lead going into the half and came out receiving the ball. A well executed defensive drive for the Sooners forced the Cowboys into 4th and long and put the ball back in the hands of the Sooners who quickly tied the game. The second half was a defensive battle and only two touchdowns were scored, each team receiving one and the game went into the 4th quarter tied.

Late in the fourth quarter after teams both exchanges three and outs, Coach Macc knew that it was going to take one big play sooner than later that would control the pace of the game and that exact play game late in the fourth quarter, Sooners went for a long bomb to their star wideout who was double covered. The entire arena knew it was overthrown and everybody saw #11 streaking down the sideline to make the WR like catch for his second interception of the day, DLOWE - Daytawion Lowe.

"He is by far the best defensive back I've ever seen at this level. This kid understands coverages, makes clutch tackles and gets to loose balls like nobodys business. I know it's not typical of the NFL Draft to have a safety prospect go within the top 10 picks but I bet this kid make a case for Rookie of the Year and go first over all before he's done this year," Macc said.

"Man I just wanted another TD. I couldn't believe how loud it was in there today and when I scored - I just wanted to keep scoring over and over. I asked Coach to put me on offense and he eventually found a spot for me on the return team which was good enough for me," Lowe had to say.

At this point in the game it put the ball in the hands of Traevon Pierce who surpassed the 2000 yard mark on the season this afternoon finishing the game with 316 yards throwing 11-17 for 3TD and 2INT. Pierce whose known for his fourth quarter game winning drives went on the field with confidence and did he ever deliver. Through adversity and tough defensive coverage mixed with some of the best pass-rush in the country - Trae found his shining star wide-out Adrian Richards when Oklahoma blitzed all but two of their players.

"I felt blitzes all afternoon, I mixed up the snap counts and saw the safety on Adr's side creeping and I just put the ball in his hands after I saw how many white jerseys were coming at me. He made the easy catch and had the easy score," Trae said.

With a 7-point lead with less than two on the clock Coach Macc knew that the game was far from over. And the Sooners put the game tying score on the board with :17 on the clock and the Cowboys just kneeled and accepted their fate of having to go into overtime with Oklahoma.

Once again, winning the toss Coach Macc put his defense on the field first and they shut the Sooners down left and right. Forcing a field goal Coach Macc called a time-out and stressed the importance of blocking the kick or pressuring the kicker.

"YOU MAKE HIM MISS... WE WIN AND THE GAME IS OVER!" An inspired group took the field and did just as the coach ordered, put too much pressure in the kickers face and forced him to miss the kick wide right.

The Cowboys took the ball, kept it on the ground and kicked the game winning field goal to end the game.

Oklahoma 35
Oklahoma State 38

You're right, ball control is hella important with this sliders I'm slowly learning that. I scored from in my 50 in my game and I would've made it much less frustrating had I downed it inside of the 15 instead of running it in. The CPU's 2 minute drill is nearly unstoppable with an over B ranked team.

But real talk - Daytawion Lowe is slowly becoming the next Ed Reed. Guy was at every play, every ball making every tackle EVERY time. I'm gonna miss him next year.
