article pulled from Oklahoma State Cowboys Head Coach, Shaun Macc's twitter recruiting blog this morning

coachmaccspreps what's up everybody!?

coach maccs here, i know i know! where have the updates been?

i've been slacking on feeding those loyal, die hard cowboys fans that just neeeed to know whose gonna be on the field next year kinda fans. the same kinda people we need out there this weekend against texas tech! anyways, i'll make up for the void with a big update on our recruiting picture this year.

high school is producing one of the CRAZIEST recruits i've seen in years! i dunno if it's ESPN not doing their job or what but there is some prime time talent out there, especially in and around the mid south. i sent the boys out east to look at a kid i am officially blowing the underrated whistle for. this kid man he is a truck. all i can say is if he were to come to oklahoma state he would be a huge asset to our running game. kid is a monster. i would love to see him making holes for us.

the other two are both guys we'd be thinking about the receiver position. i'll even say that i could see both of these guys on the field NEXT YEAR. they're facing eachother in a regular season game and boy it's a toss up whose going to come out with the better game. one of them flew completely under the radar i mean this kid has everything you want from the receiver position. he's tall, fast and has some of the best hands ive seen out of high school lately. i see this kid creeping up peoples recruiting list but i think we've got a firm lock. he's watching the way age is playing this year and i think he recognizes he could be the guy for that right possibly by next year. as for our other guy, boy he moves quick. he's the fastest one on the field at all times. and with the ball, he carries it like a running back. nice size for a slot man. boy i'd love to land this one!

the trip isn't over, though. oh no. it's just getting started. the boys are going to a kid i pray to god puts on the orange next year. everyone knows who he is and he's making defences look silly in a deep talent pool. he's the perfect prototypical quarter back for our style and i wish i could go watch what he does this week. he's making a strong push for a state championship that would make it his third and just the way he leads on the field it's unreal. he's got an absolute cannon and the ability to make guys miss. he's also pretty high on us so keep your fingers crossed cowboys fans!

the next guy is everything you've heard of him. couldn't meet a nicer kid and whatta animal he is. he plays the line backer position and he just does everything. he moves like a safety out there and he hits like a sledge hammer. he's always around the ball a pure ball hawk. i'll probably go watch his game this week after run throughs. if he came around next year - he would without a doubt be in for damn near every defensive play.

our hometown boys still putting up record numbers. what impresses me about him is his overall ABILITY. he does everything so well. he runs his routes, he catches the ball, he helps his quarterback, he blocks, he makes plays nearly every time you give him the ball. not to mention his good size and just a great kid. he's an energizer bunny and i think i saw one of the damn near nicest catches i've ever seen on his film tape and im really buying into how he's making one of those WTF! catches each game.

one guy we've done nearly everything BUT sign is going to be a huge part of our running game next year - he's coming out of texas and is being dround in a talent sess pool. this kid hits the wholes so hard and so quick. he's got GREAT size and the best part is he's a quick runner. i heard he ran his 40 in 4.3 last week. i have no idea how he's not being looked at by some of the bigger schools but i sure don't mind! to give you knuckle heads an idea if he does come, he'll have at least 10-15 carries next year... maybe even run that wild cat you all saw on baylor Wink

that's it for this week knuckleheads, i'll be back next week!

quick little update while i've got a minute! robbie's dad called me last night and explained how important it is to him for robbie to see the field next year. he said he's a little worried about the ammount of young talent that clemson has at the qb position. i assured him that if he enrolls, he'll be in competition with just one guy for the job. thankfully, robbie's dad's middle name is competition and i think we're looking good! he comes to visit us this week as we host a&m.

i heard through the grape vine that brannon mcintyre was wearing the cowboy orange to school this week. wish somebody could've got a picture!

calvin williams won't stop txting me late at night about how the thought of playing for osu is enough to make him lose sleep at night. oh boy!

that's all knuckleheads! thought you'd like that little update! GO BOYSSS!

coachsmaccspreps sup knuckleheads?

big week off for us here at o.k. state. the boys have been resting up for what will be the biggest game of the year next week against iowa. we've been having only one a days to keep everyone energized and ready for this week, but boy are things looking nice. trae and his core are right on track and we've been studying film all week about how to prepare for iowa. hell even some 1 loss coaches have been calling me lately with some strategies to beat them. focus and determination will be the keys to next weeks battle but for now, i thought with all this free time on my hands i'd give a skills position update. of course, i cannot mention the names of kids until they commit so i'll try my best to not break any rules.

as you know, we signed espn.com's #1 rated and elite 8 quarterback, Robbie McIntyre. we're not the type of coaching staff easily amused or fooled by the idiots that rate these kids but i think the season robbie's having this year is one of the only ratings they got right. kids thrown for over 2,000 yards hasn't thrown a single pick and has over 20 tds in just 8 games for his high school. what's really impressed us is his running ability and ability to make plays with his feet. it's not that he's the average dual threat QB because our system has no room for a guy whose first instincts are to run past the line of scrimmage and make plays. instead, we've found a great QB in robbie because he's a pass first QB, despite his national scrambling status. instead he'll make plays with his feet behind the line of scrimmage, making linemen and linebackers miss left and right to eventually distribute the ball. he's got great size and speed for a qb, a cannon for an arm and has some great agility. a little bit of work on his entangibles will make him a serious threat for the starting job next year.

our second signing of the year came on the very same week and it was #6 MLB, Brannon McIntyre. the scouting report on bran is that he's a monster in size, has good LB speed, hits about as hard as anyone in the country and has a better tackling pursuit than any recruit i've seen out of high school in my entire career. he's going to be a force for us next year in the middle and is just a generally sound player. his leadership qualities are outstanding and i expect him to be our vocal defensive leader by his sophmore season. he's a great kid and has told me he's going to work extremely hard over the off-season and summer to improve going to as many camps as he can make time for. he comes from a great linebacker pedigree in the McIntyre family and his dreams of playing in the NFL are extremely evident.

we've got a guy on our list from texas at tight end who has great size at 6'5 243, great speed for a TE, he's not a great blocker but the best facet of his game is selling his blocks and getting out into the flats to bail out qb's on broken plays. he's got some really nice moves and catches the ball as good as any tight end in this years group. he'll be a force if he comes to us next year and i'd expect him to see the ball thrown his way plenty of times.

one of our safety recruits whose really big on okay state out of california is by far this years best free safety prospect. he's got average to good size for a safety and pretty good speed. he's well aware on the field and is a quarterbacks nightmare because of his man coverage skills. there is no explanation for this kid missing espn.com's top 10 overall players in the COUNTRY let alone in his position! i cannot believe how badly they'ved missed this, this kid will be one of the best man coverage defensive backs in the entire COUNTRY next year. he would see plenty of time in our dime package locking down opposing teams slot receivers.

some of the guys who will help our receiving core is an instate product that i don't see going anywhere else. kid grew up an oklahoma state fan and when we offered him a scholarship i could almost see how excited he was. when he put the phone on hold and the entire house was rattling with his brothers and sisters excited, you could hear his father in the background 'WERE GONNA WAIT IT OUT! WERE GONNA WAIT IT OUT!' couldn't ask for more from the wide-out position. he has the best hands out of any WR in the class and catches the ball even better when the pressures on and he's being covered. he's one of those competition guys, you hit me i'm coming back and making a catch and burnin' you down the sideline guys who will fit into our system pefectly. a little work in camps in the off-season will improve his awareness and overall knowledge of the position. he's more so a track-athlete turned WR but he loves the game and has all of the uncoachable entangibles... now it's just time for him to work on the easy stuff.

another WR prospect is a texas boy who lovvves to catch the ball. he has amazing size for the position and will be a match-up problem for any secondary in the country next year. he is an absolute BURNER and if you can keep up with him, good luck trying to match him when he's in the air. his verticle is INSANE and his 6'5 height makes him a deadly target. he is a great kid and comes from a rough home so our coaching staff would be more than happy to have him come down to oklahoma and stay away from trouble.

one of our running back prospects is a speed guy whose got power back size. another texas boy, his take off speed is unreal. if this kid gets 2 good blocks outside he takes it to the house every time. he can make guys miss, break tackles and is the centre of attention everytime he's on the field. i don't know how the guys at espn missed this one because if he turns out to be a cowboy next year he may be our #1.

that's about it for this week guys, look for our next update within a couple weeks and make sure you all tune in to our game against iowa with our HIGH hopes of being the team that breaks their undefeated record. GO BOYS!

it's been a roller coaster month for the cowboys and although we had hoped for a double digit win season - we're more than happy with easily taking the at&t cotton bowl. we've received some monster commits recently, some guys i told you about last time and we're thrilled to have playmakers like these now in the white and orange.

ryan smith is a free safety projected recruit and we can see this guy playing all over the field next year on passing downs. he's got good speed and good size. he's a very hard worker and said he'll work hard in the off season to bulk up. his man coverage is second to none so he'll be a definite nickle and dime package corner in the slot position.

matt franklin is our in state receiving product whose going to be a playmaker early. he's got average size and i can see him playing in our second slot position next year. he's got great hands and calls himself a possession receiver, which is perfect for our slot position. he's a great kid with a high gpa and a love for the game. he'll need to work hard in the off season to get some playing time next year. depending on his depth chart progression he may not receive redshirt status that would allow him to become a five year player.

mike matthews is a texas product who is listed at 6'5. he runs a 4.2 40 and loves to catch the ball. his verticle is crazy and he'll be an instant starter the minute he comes to camp. he'll be in charge of our #1 WR position putting him nearly always on the left if traevon is the starter and right if robbie wins the job so they can get the good deep ball touch to him. he'll be great in the redzone and will be a force by his sophmore year.

calvin williams is only a 3* guy but he's got great size for a speed back. he's a texas boy and his acceleration is off the charts. depending on how our upperclassmen figure they'd do in the draft next year he could see the ball plenty of times. he'll be our #3 behind only kyle and travis next year.

that's all we've signed so far and we look to spend a lot of time going to see camps all across the south. thanks for checkin' up folks!

coachmaccspreps sup ladies?

incase you haven't heard... in one season in oklahoma state i, myself, coach macc have lifted the schools prestige from a 4-star to a 5-star school. i'm not usually the type to brag but i think this is a huge deal and i think it's great for our schools reputation. hard work throughout the year preaching fundamentals and fair play has earned not just me but the entire team and school an extra star on it's reputation. next years goal? 10+ win season and lift it to 6 stars!

boy do i have a treat for the cowboy faithful. this week at o.k. state we've been busy trying to sign some playmaker recruits after losing quite a heavy load to the nfl and graduated seniors. we've had our team party and said our good byes to our seniors. but now it's time to focus on the guys we're going to bring in next year. as we've mentioned before we've got immediate playmakers in fs ryan smith, wr mike matthews, wr matt franklin and hb calvin williams.

we've been working our butts off this week going out and around the southern states trying to steal some of the talent pool and bring them in. this week we got six huge commitments, all players we feel have the ability to compete for starting spots next year and we've filled a void in picking up some buffet busters on both sides of the ball.

a kid we're huge on here at o.k state is guard nick davis. nick is an in-state oklahoma boy and he was on our radar since day one. he is a beast in terms of size and athleticism. he is a 4-star product that excells in all areas you want out of an offensive linemen. he will be a key center peice for years to come in our running game and you couldn't ask for a better effort out of a kid. nick is an offensive star for his warr acres high school and he is just an animal. he's about 6'5 and weighs nearly 300 pounds. we cannot wait to see him suit up here.

another big boy we've signed will play o tackle and that's none other than josh mccray. the minute i heard this kids name i knew i had to sign him, i mean he could work on the spelling a bit (maybe try MacRae instead?) but it'll do. josh is a great kid with a tremendous work ethic. he's also an in-state boy and will be a beast on our o-line. he's got great strength and is an excellent blocker in all facets of the game. we're told he's a little bit of a hot-head but we've got all the faith in the world that our coaching staff will be able to keep that fire burning contained and use it positively. sure-fire starting spot contender.

well it's official. we stole mississippi's pride and joy wr eric robinson. you take one look at this kid and he makes your eyes pop. he stands 6'6 and weighs almost 200. he has amazing size for a wide-out and great speed for a big guy. he's about as good as you can hope for at such a young age in terms of route running and will make big plays when he's thrown the ball. looking at the talent pool we've got at the WR position and the lack of numbers we've got a tight end we may end up using him as our #2 te next year strictly to catch balls. he will be a great player by the start of his sophmore campaign.

an athlete prospect out of louisiana by the name of james robertson caught our eye late in the season and he's all ours now. although he's an athlete we feel he'll be best projected in the corner back position and feel he's got the speed to keep up with almost anyone in the country. his coverage skills are amazing and he is a spectacular athlete. we're looking forward to seeing how he does this year.

another big boy we've signed this week is de chris black, another oklahoma product. chris is an all-around sound player and makes his living off stopping the run, something we're very interested in doing here at o.k. state. he's very big for an end at 6'5 and 258. his tackling angles and pursuit are good and nearly all aspects of his game are generally equal and solid. we're not sure when chris will start but nobodies ruling him out. great pick-up for the cowboys.

we've also signed another mlb prospect out of maryland by the name of jason coleman. he's got average size for a mlb but for what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed and tackling ability. his speed for a linebacker is crazy and his pursuit angles are second to none. with our 3-4 defensive system in tact we think he'll see plenty of time on the field with substitutions this year and keeping guys fresh. i can picture him coming in on third and long situations to rush the qb and wreak havoc in the back field.

that's it this week but tune in next week because i'm sure we'll have some more preps for you to hear about.

oh yeah! chris black and josh mccray will be facing off head to head nearly every single snap this week at oklahoma's high school state championship. go out and show some support! me along with the rest of the coaching staff will be bonging beers in the stands, come join in on the fun!

coachmaccsprepssup ladies?

well our first week of practice is in the books and we've got some updates for you in terms of how some of our true freshmen have progressed and how we feel they match-up. the coaching staff liked what they saw in our first week and we've especially received effort from some of the guys we worked our butts off to bring in here. we've designed a list of how our recruits are rated in terms of the impact we project them to have on our team immediately starting next year.

1) WR Mike Matthews.
- Mike is the best WR recruit in the entire country by a long shot. Not only is he the fastest WR in the country (running 4.3 40's all week!) he's also one of the biggest targets standing at 6'5. We couldn't be happier with the effort he's put in this year on and off the field. He worked his butt off in school to bring his GPA up so he could attend a D-1 school and that took one of his years of eligibility off, making him a true sophmore. We're okay with that because he became our second biggest threat in our receiving core the minute he stepped on campus. We want to isolate him as much as possible because we think we can cause serious match-up problems throughout the league with him being so tall. We've had him lined up on the left when Trae's throwing and on the right when Robbie's throwing to play to the strong side of each QB and we've had nothing but success. Matthews came in a stranger to most but his leadership qualities will make him a sure-fire offensive captain candidate next season, the boys LOVE him!

2) MLB Brannon McIntyre.
- What a kid. The coaching staff is in love with Bran and his work ethic. The kid doesn't have a dorm - he LIVES in the gym. He realizes that strength conditioning will only increase his impact player status. He came in the #1 MLB on our team the minute he stepped on campus and it couldn't have worked out better for everyone because although he would've been willing to wait-out a year had he been behind a upperclassmen - he's the attention sponge type that with the #1 MLB title he now walks and plays with a chip on his shoulder and knows he's a key centre-piece in our defence. He's very well motivated and wants to be a big part of our team and our defence.

3) QB Robbie McIntyre.
- Robbie's been battling in the first week because he wants the starting position. He knows he's #2 on our depth chart right now but that #2 title is only really due to Trae having a break-out campaign last year and coming through in the clutch for us. It's a tough spot for him because right in the crucial moments of Robbie's recruiting last year when we had a senior starting - Robbie thought it would be an easier competition competeing with Traevon who also had no game experience at the time. Unfortunately, right around the time Robbie signed on, Trae came out of nowhere and exploded into a great pocket passer. We've been pulling our hair out about what to do with this because Robbie is the emotional type. We don't want to ruin his confidence by making him think he's not good enough to be our #1 but we also don't want to start him before he's ready, we want him to be comfortable with our offence so that he knows where to look and how to move the ball. Traevon's leadership qualities are extremely evident because he's made sure he and Robbie are on good terms the minute Robbie stepped in, although they do compete for the starting job Traevon is mature enough to realize that we've got a great five-star prospect we want to protect. We've thought about implementing a dual-QB system to keep defences on their heels, using Trae in the pocket and Robbie outside the pocket making plays with his feet and extending broken plays with his running ability. He is an excellent runner with great agililty, ball carrier vision and has un-coachable ability to make guys miss. When he sets and throws, he's got excellent arm strength and knows his number one concern is working on making his passes more catchable.

4) CB Ryan Smith.
- Ryan is a great kid and he couldn't have been happier when we converted him to corner back. Everyone may think we're crazy but his man coverage skills are by far the best in the country. Nobody can lock down a receiver like Ryan and with our flash blitz, cover 2 man style of defence he just wasn't the type of free safety we were looking for. He's a little small but that's obviously easily improved and won't be an issue, but far too small for our prototype FS (linebacker size/mentality, corner speed). He's got plenty of room for some more stock to add to his build. He was thrilled when we told him he'd be our #3/#4 corner on dime and nickle packages covering the position we had most trouble with last year - teams slot receivers. We think he adds a great element to our defence and if he improves his ability to press at the line - he will be a shutdown corner by the start of his sophmore season.

5) WR Matt Franklin.
- Don't let the fact that he's only #5 on our list mislead you. We're HUGE on Franklin here and think he has the ability to make plays immediately for us. He will be our #4 guy, making him our #2 slot behind Adr, who he's been working with all week to determine how to find holes in Big 12 defences. He's short, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed, route running and jumping ability. He's a very quiet kid until he's having success and we think that gives him a little mean-streak that from what we've heard from past coaches is what we want out of him 100% of the time. He's decided to leave his rough Oklahoma neighbourhood to live in residence at OK State and he's roomed up with CB Ryan Smith and the two go head-to-head in every practice on almost every down. We think they will both be great to help eachother improve, seeing as they're both roughly the same size, speed and type of player. Franklin is defenitely the type of receiver we had trouble with last year and we're hoping they'll bring the best out in eachother.

6) CB James Robertson.
- Robertson was recruited as an athlete but his speed and coverage skills made him almost a corner the minute we saw him play. He's surprised us in practice this week, we didn't realize he was such a high-calibre player. He's earned his spot out there when he decides to show up for the play. He tends to take plays off and admits his stamina isn't the greatest especially for such a high-energy position like corner. We plan to use him as a #3/#4 guy who brings energy to the field everytime he steps on. He's happy with his energy playing time status and we've got a feeling he's the type the coaching staff will need to keep an eye on. He doesn't appear to take practice as serious as everyone else, especially our DBs but leadership from our senior 2nd year captain, Daytawion Lowe will surely help.

7) OT Josh McCray.
- Josh is a great all-around blocker. His game has no clear pro's or con's, making him a steady linemen we can depend on. He is an absolute clown and a great kid with a good sense of humour. He's got great timing and we don't project him to give us many problems with offsides and false starts. He is extremely motivated at practice and has made it clear he wants to be a star player and we're nothing but confident that he will be with some hard work.

8 ) DE Chris Black.
- Black's been a nice, quiet surprise for us over the past week. He's converted from the linebacker position to defensive end because we don't feel he has the speed for our linebacker system. But we're very confident he'll be a quarterbacks nightmare by his junior year with a bit of progression. He moves like a linebacker, which would make you feel like he's a pass-rusher but really he's made his name off of stopping the run coming up in clutch situations. He has great pursuit angles and great tackling ability. He will make the best in the league fumble - it's just a matter if he can drop some weight and catch them or not.

My next update will fill you knuckleheads in with our target recruits for next year. As of right now, we know we'll need to be replacing 2 OT's, 2 OLB's, a MLB, a FS, a SS and a P.

coachmaccspreps what's up everybody!?

we've started the year 2-1 and we can't be happier with the way the boys have played the past two weeks. big wins over two top 25 teams rated higher than us? unreal!

as promised, i've got a short update about the way the coaching staff has decided to recruit this year. we feel like we've got talent nearly all around the skilled positions on offense, so we've decided to go after playmakers we don't neccesarily need to fill in terms of positions - but will be important key peices at ok state.

some of our interior linemen, offensive and defensive will be graduating at the end of the year so we're going to need to replace them. we feel there is tons of tackles and defensive ends that can play from day one if they decide to sign on with us. of course, you know the infringement rules about mentioning names - when we receive some commits we will be sure to list full names and skills rankings.

we can tell you we've got two outside linebackers on our list. apparently they're both good friends and they're among the best in the country at their position. what we've felt comfortable with here at ok state is having linebackers than can move east and west fast. acceleration and speed are our main focuses for our outside guys, because we feel when offences typically have had success on us - it's the running backs or tight-ends in the flats area that catch us off guard. also we've been seeing a plethora of mobile quarterbacks recently that we feel side off of the edge will help our defence.

we've received interest from tons of the countries best preps, certainly a lot more than we did last year, assumingly due to the star calibre increase we've received in the off-season. we've got a couple of the countries top running backs and we're looking to add at least two speed-style backs. larry bell one of our late commits last year we feel is a great red-zone back and is our goal-line guy so we feel if we've got two backs for next year to see 5-10 touches each game - our running game will be dominant for years to come.

we'll need to replace our strong-safety this year and we've become very comfortable having a player of daytawion's calibre back there so we'll be looking to replace him with the best safeties we can find in the recruiting process. of course it will be impossible to replace a player like DLO but we feel with a couple years of experience coming in right away starting as a true-freshman, we'll have two upperclass years from him dominating.

that's about it for this week we'll update when we've got some signings!!!

couple updates since our last. we've received a 4* safety commitment from adam bulluck who said the main reason he's coming to oklahoma state is because he's seen what our db coaches can do for a safety. adam's a big kid and is a pure ball hawk but our coaching staff is wondering how he'd do as a linebacker because we're going to need to replace jordan barnes if he decides to go pro and leron furr after this year. we know we need some speed there and converting the safety speed to lb with a kid whose strong and can tackle well enough could do wonders for this kids career. we've talked to him about and while dlowe is the type of player he wants to be, he has no fear he can have that type of impact from any position on the field.

we've also received a commitment from our highest recruited olb prospect, #2 olb ranked mark mcknight. mark's got great all around skills and plays both ways in hs, running the ball as the main feature back for his team. he's a force on defence and that's where he makes his living. freak of nature athlete and one of those hype guys that will give your defence that extra boost. i can't imagine not finding a spot for him on the field next year because when he's got 2-3 years experience in we have no doubt he'll be one of the best defenders in the country.
